This report examines the role of civil society and private sector in the Republic of Moldova in achieving the Millennium Development Goal 4 “Reduce child mortality” (MDG 4). As part of the research process, representatives of the civil society, private sector, relevant governmental institutions and international organizations were interviewed. This document assesses the major trends and current situation in the areas covered by MDG 4. In case of the civil society organizations, the document studies main practices used by these organizations to promote the MDG 4 and the best practices. The role of the private sector is assessed from the perspective of the social corporate responsibility, philanthropy, community-based activities and engagement in policy dialogue. The study ends with a set of recommendations designed to increase the role of the private sector and civil society in achieving the national targets of the MDG 4.
