The 2009/2010 National Human Development Report provides a comprehensive and in-depth analysis of the strong impact of climate variability and climate change, and extreme weather events on sectors vital to human development in Moldova: water resources, ecosystems, agriculture and energy, transport infrastructure and health. As ascertained in this report, the climate change challenges should be fully introduced into the national policy agenda, they should not be ignored and left for future generations. The development policies should also aim at advancing the interests of their intended beneficiaries – the people. Therefore, the human development perspective is one of the central features of this report as it tries to shed more light on the way climate change will affect Moldova’s development trends and agenda and, ultimately, the hopes and opportunities of Moldovan people.
