Crises are not new for the Moldovan winemaking sector. The post-Soviet transition has been marked by a number of shocks in this sector: Russian financial crisis in 1998, Russia's embargo against Moldovan alcoholic beverages in 2007 and the global financial and economic crisis in 2009. In all these cases the Moldovan producers of wine have suffered heavy blows, mainly in result of dramatic demand contraction. Considering the importance of the sector for the Moldovan economy, many studies have already tried to answer how to promote competitiveness and eliminate barriers inhibiting the sector. This study aims to identify some measures and actions needed to be undertaken both on companies' side and on the side of the relevant public authorities.
