Moldovan energy sector is a mix of inefficiency, dependency on external sources and low per capita consumption. Over 96% of energy consumption comes from imports, whereas only 40% in the EU. Also, the losses from the electro-energetic networks are reaching 25%, compared to only 7.5% in the EU.

The Association Agreement with EU comes to revive the energy sector in Moldova, by adopting the provisions of the Energy Community to the local market, with the core of these provisions being the so-called "Package no. III", which involves the separation of productions, transport and energy & natural gas distribution activities, transmission and distribution electricity and gas, greater consumer choice freedom in selecting providers and integrating our infrastructure into that of EU.

Should these provisions be implemented, the consumers will enjoy fair relationships with electricity/gas suppliers, consisting of greater freedom of choice, greater freedom of provider’ change and a quicker procedure for solving contractual disputes. In addition, the consumers will benefit from detailed information on power energy/gas consumption and performance certificate for their homes.
