Starting January 2012, the Moldovan Government apparently decided to abandon being just an observer and undertook to promote actively consumers’ rights. With this purpose in mind, the Government has created a new authority, as distinct legal person and with broader set of market control competences – the Agency for Consumers’ Protection. Institutional changes went hand in hand with some important legal amendments. In this analysis, we review the most important policy innovations and try to assess their potential impact.
