Economic Commentary, no. 109

This analysis has been done for the Moldovan NGO Promo-Lex, which represents at the European Court for Human Rights a group of citizens complaining about the violation of the human rights in the Transnitrian region (Catan and others against Moldova and the Russian Federation). The plaintiffs have been invited by the Court to answer a number of questions, which are important for a fair ruling from the part of the Court. Several questions concern the economic support the region enjoys from the part of the Russian Federation. This analysis proves that the region has benefited of a vital economic support from the part of the Russian Federation, making the latter morally responsible for the infringement of the human rights in the region.
