Paradoxes of Statistical Data: How Did the Household Income Really Evolve?

On May 22, the NBS published data on households’ incomes and expenditures for the first quarter, collected through the Household Budget Survey (HBS). HBS are important sources of information for all developed and most of the developing countries and is quite successfully implemented in Moldova since 1999. HBS provides the information missing in the administrative data sources. We do not expect HBS data to equal similar data provided by administrative sources (such as Balance of Payments on the migrants remittances), but it is absolutely natural for the trends to be close and this was the case until 2009. So what it is really going on with the households’ income?
