Risks and Causes of Prices Growth in Moldova

According to the recent data of the National Bureau of Statistics, in August the consumers’ prices declined 0.9 percent against July, while in annual terms the consumers’ prices index registered a 7.8 percent growth, well above the Central Bank target of 5 percent (±1 p.p.). A simple analysis of the impact of inflation on poverty across different social categories proves that pensioners and rural inhabitants are those to lose the most in result of the escalating prices.
