Goal: to contribute to fixing the banking sector crisis, by providing unbiased analysis and policy recommendations, as well as by raising public awareness and increasing the accountability of relevant public authorities.
The project will consist of three main activities:
Activity no. 1: Conducting a reality check of the banking system of Moldova and an unbiased assessment of the key factors of the crisis from the troubled three banks, as well as its broader economic, financial and social risks.
Objective: providing the policy makers with a proper analytical ground for policy interventions, and the general public – with an independent and clear explanation about reasons and implications of this crisis.
Activity no. 2: Elaborating a roadmap for solving the crisis at those three banks and consolidating the banking sector stability and confidence. Importantly, the policy recommendations will not deal only with fixing the issues of the troubled three banks, but will address as well the existing legal and institutional loopholes that need to be eliminated in order to prevent similar crises in the future.
Objective: improving the stability of the banking sector by providing the policy makers a clear roadmap for fixing the short- and long-term issues of the banking sector.
Activity no. 3: Creation of the civic monitoring council, which will conduct periodic monitoring and analysis of policy makers’ activities in fixing the issues of the banking sector.
Objective: speeding up the reforms by increasing the accountability of key public authorities and engaging the public in discussions about policies aimed at the long-term consolidation of the banking sector.
