Over the years, the Republic of Moldova has taken certain measures to ensure equal economic opportunities for men and women. Also, the national legislation and regulatory framework establish equal access conditions to the labour market for men and women. At the same time, the Republic of Moldova is ranked 23rd out of 153 states according to the Global Gender Gap Index 2020, developed by World Economic Forum.
However, women continue to face a lot of challenges related to gender inequalities in the distribution of paid and unpaid work, women's primary responsibilities for unpaid housekeeping work and inequalities in the access to economic opportunities, which stem from historically unequal relationships between men and women.
In this context, ”Expert-Grup” Independent Think-Tank, in partnership with the Women’s Law Center and with the financial support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Sweden in the Republic of Moldova, has developed the study: ”Assessment of the women economic empowerment support programs”. The scope of the study is to evaluate recent programs funded from external sources, directed at stimulating women's economic empowerment, including vulnerable women groups, and to provide recommendations on streamlining women's economic empowerment programs and appropriate national policies for them, in order to better target the most vulnerable groups and to ensure a stronger impact.
